At a very cold and wet service station at South Mimm's was the meeting point with Alexis and the Passion Ford North London guys and girls for our trip to the pod.

Gary and John were there waiting for Gavin and Wayne as they were running late but this didn’t matter as the group didn’t leave until around half seven anyways. There was a multitude of different fords congregated there for the trip up to Northampton including all varieties of Cosworth, fiestas, escorts and even a very tidy Nissan skyline and an RX7 with one not so careful lady owner, she sure knew how to handle her car and put it to good use on the way there.

We left the services and made our way up to Santa Pod in the wet, but this didn’t stop everyone from having some fun up there. There was some fish tailing action from the very rapid RX7 and the cossie boys were not shy in showing what their beasts were capable of. There were a few run in’s with some Ferrari’s that soon realised they were not as quick as they thought they were. Flames kept coming from the back of Gary’s car as we booted it up the motorway and finally we made it to our destination and every one was getting in the mood for it too.
Tyres screeching, rubber burning. We were ready for a day of foot to the floor ¼ mile action.

The stand was set and most of us got busy cleaning their cars ready for the public to come and cast their eyes over while some were making some last minute preparations to their cars for their track session which we were to find out was not going to start as soon as we had all hoped. The weather was not on our side and low cloud kept the moisture in the air and kept the strip damp. But the men and women of Santa pod done us proud drying and gluing the tarmac and eventually by lunchtime we were ready to go race.

Now although the day was predominantly Fords there were a few other makes of car there too, including:  BMW, Dodge and Vauxhall to name a few but they still had trouble keeping up with the ford boys, especially the Royal Nail cossie powered van and a very quick mk1 escort estate.  Gary took his 3dr for 3 shots at the strip and his best was a very respectable 13.193 seconds and at a speed of 107.24 mph, well done that man.

In the Concourse section were a few cars that looked like they had been wrapped in a time bubble. The one to grab most peoples attention was an absolutely mint and standard series 2 RS Turbo in black. She had only 9,000 miles showing on the clock, the interior was the cleanest any of us had ever seen and to top it all off she was even wearing her original tyres. She looked even better than if she had of just rolled out of the show room. It’s always gives mixed feeling to see these cars, glad that they are being preserved and kept how the looked but also it seems a shame that they will never know the feel of the turbo winding up and feel the boost.

There were a few familiar cars at the show that were spotted by eagle eye Gavin. Gaffa, DangerousDave, mustgofaster and j4ffa to name a few were some of the people and cars seen on the day and Gaffa was spotted giving his RS Focus some stick up the track and seeing off a sapphire Cosworth too.
All in all it was a great day out and very enjoyable. Even if it was bitterly cold it wasn’t cold enough to put us hardy ford owners off doing what we enjoy most; showing and using our fords.
