Mk2 X-Pack Escort Cosworth
Owners Comments:
Now the vans completed,
Scott has set his eye on a new project and the car he has always dreamed about,
a Mk2 escort with an x-pack kit and a cossie lump driving the rear wheels.
Well his dream has
become a close reality as he owns the car, has a kit and now has the mammoth
task of getting looking like the vehicle he has be after for a while, keep
checking back to this page with updates on how he is doing and watch the car
take shape.

Car has been purchased and Scott Collected from some serious miles away,
its a mk2 ex rally car which came with a number of goodies like 5 link
rear axle, updated suspension, alloy tank stand, world cup cross
member... and a few other bits and pieces. Once back to the workshop
it was pushed into place and gutted to see what was required, it may
look like a bit of a mess now but things are not as bad as they look. |

of Ebay Scott managed to pick up a few essential parts as well as a few
great upgraded, the major part was the X-Pack kit. So the car was
gutted, all removable panels taken off and anything excess removed so
the work can begin for now its just a case of prepping and fitting as
paint and body work will be the first point of call for the car.
Some of the work had been done by a previous owner(s) but Scott plans
on doing it from scratch.
With one wing temp fitted to see how it was going to sit, and as luck
has it, it fitted fine. |

 |
| Scott
took up another member who has spent the last number of years restoring
a prime example of a mk2 escort, to have a look at what he has bought
and offer some words of wisdom... ... and after a few hours of just
looking and chatting Scott now has more work than he originally planned,
they are cutting and replacing a number of panels and Stuart also very
kindly lent Scott a roll over jig so he could get to the underside with
a lot more ease.
Stuart also managed to gain a better condition and stronger x-pack
kit for the car so that is now sitting in place to see how it looks.
Not much more to really say, as it mainly going to be body work for
now but keep looking back and you can see the changes made to the mk2
and hopefully in primer by xmas |

 |
| ok so the
car in primer by xmas was a long shot but the cars coming along great,
because of the immense amount of filler on the roof the car will have
the current one chopped and and a new one fitted to get it back to how
it was supposed to look and front end panels are being replaced by 2x2
box sections as it will be easier to mount the cooler and rad when it
comes to it. the rear fire wall has now been cut out as that was also
a state and has been replaced with a new sheet of metal and is tac'd in
place to prepare all the other bits.
and thanks to Stuart the boot now has a petrol tank... shame its
missing all the other vital parts to make it of some use for now.
with the bodywork on hold, Scott and Stuart have been prepping the
car to take its engine and box, so the floor is being cut and then it
can be flipped on its side to get the underside done. |

 |
| In order
for the floor pan to get done and prepped ready for painting Scott
required an engine, so with a few mates and donor parts he managed to
get a bottom end, bell housing and box so that everything can be test
fitted, first came the world cup cross member and an angle grinder, as
the cossie engine's sump fouls the cross member so a section has to be
cut then re welded to make it fit, once that was done the box was
attached and then all lifted into the bay. with a jack holding the box
in place Scott set about aligning the gear stick and he found he needed
to cut at least 6" of the tunnel out for this to fit, so from the
rumours we have heard he ended up cutting the whole tunnel out and
fabricated a new one to make it look more neater and fit better
the rear fire wall has now been totally replaced and looks 100%
better than it did, once a roll cage has been located he can get the
interior prepped and painted also. |
